What 15 minutes of focus can do...

At the beginning of this year, I was ready for a change. Despite the almost 12 months of home schooling, I felt I wasn't getting quality time with my girls. I've been trying a few strategies in the past...only to find they fall of the "priority list" due to activities, choirs, and the simple day-to-day routines. I wasn't able to establish a new routine that would mean 80 minutes of reading at night.

I should know better, right? The WILL was there to make it happen...but clearly the resources were not!

At the beginning of this year, I went through this "Goal Setting" exercise to find what area of my life was out of balance. Low and behold - it was all about building relationships. I wasn't surprised. I knew I wanted to figure out a way to carve out some quality time to spend with each of my 4 girls during the week.

After 15 minutes of focusing, brainstorming, and reiterating what I already knew - it had to be part of the daily routines - DINNER! I figured they are old enough to cook, we all need to eat dinner, and with virtual school, and limited after school activities - we have the time to cook together! Win-Win!

So, each girl has a day they cook. We sit down together to plan their meal, looking through recipes, and creating our grocery list. I get to spend 1-2 hours with them, teach them about nutrition and cooking. We are three weeks in and we are all LOVING it - crossing fingers it will stay that way!

Are all the meals healthy? No, not really?

Are they learning in the process? Totally!

What are you doing to make life easier for you? What areas do you need more balance in to make 2021 your year? Try the "Goal Setting" exercise by clicking the image below and find out!
