How a family schedule is getting us movi’n!

We have all the time in the world - right! So, we expect to get more done than ever before with cleaning, spending time with our family, developing skills, learning new skills, exercising, cooking healthy and so on.

While we do have more time we are also under a tremendous amount of stress causing us more anxiety and even depression. We need to reset our expectations!

I’m a driven person, I love to workout, I love to spend time with my family…I still do! However, I’ve had to lower my expectations as I’m not as motivated as I used to be…after all, I have all the time in the world to get it done…so why do it NOW?

With more time to complete a task we are less likely to complete it. A couple of years ago, I was looking at our backyard always thinking I need to clean it up and organize it to make it more inviting. Only when I was pressured for time did I get it done - friends were invited over for a BBQ so I cleaned up and organize the backyard in a few hours. It was not that I did not have the time to do it, it was that I had all the time in the world to do it…so no pressure! Once I had to get it done because we had visitors coming - I got it done.

…or how about when we are having visitors for dinner ;)

Stuck at home with all the time in the world, unfortunately makes us less motivated. Unless, you have a schedule to get it done…you are unlikely to do it.

Let me give you another example. As discussed in Atomic Habits by James Clear, a research study found that 91% of those who created a schedule of when and where they would exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes actually did their workout. On the contrary, only 38% of those who said they would do the workout and read articles about the benefit of exercise but did not put together a schedule go their exercise done.

Set a schedule to exercise. Exercise is a mood booster. Exercise for 10 minutes will do. (more info on benefits of exercise HERE.

Create a schedule with your family. ONE activity will do! If you, as a family, plan your activities you are all engaged. Let everyone plan an activity for the day - at least one including movement/exercise.

Now, you will all hold each other accountable to stay follow the schedule. As a family, we’ve committed to family soccer in the backyard every day…some days it’s easier than others - but we always get it done! Need help to get going? Schedule a 30 minute complementary call with me HERE - I’d love to help!
